At the 2018 EuroScience Open Forum in Toulouse, France, the J&J Innovation team hosted panel discussions reflecting the theme: “Sharing Science: Towards New Horizons.”
This conference, the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe, brought together 4,700 scientists, policymakers, business leaders, students and science journalists from around the world to focus on how effective collaboration can best advance science and innovation to improve people’s lives.
Seema Kumar, Vice President Innovation, Public Health and Science Policy Communication, participated in a special Aging and Health panel during ESOF’s opening ceremony. Moreover, there were panel sessions featuring J&J experts. The first focused on how to support women in science, both via careers and policy leadership; the second discussed the latest innovations in cancer immunotherapy, including potential vaccines and combination therapies; and the third presented the role of transparency and building credibility for science communications.
The J&J team and leaders had visibility at a host of other events held adjacent to ESOF as expert speakers. We spoke at the first ever conference for Young African Scientists in Europe (YASE), presented the European Science Journalist of the Year award and participated in a special session on Evidence-Based Policy-Making vs Policy-Biased Evidence-Making: The Roles & Rights of Industry at the Toulouse Chamber of Commerce. Seema and Frederik Wittock, Science Activation Communications Leader for EMEA, also attended the EuroScience General Assembly and discussed future options to sustain scientific collaboration.
